Smoky Pork Butt Burnt Ends with Candied Jalapeños (Sweet Heat Recipe)

This Pepper Fan recipe brings bold Kansas BBQ flavor to the table with smoky pork butt burnt ends finished in a rich, sweet heat glaze. Made with Campbell Gardens Candied Jalapeños—our best-selling sweet heat favorite—this recipe layers flavor from the start using jalapeño brine and peppers during the cook, then finishes with a BBQ sauce packed with chopped candied jalapeños. The result is tender, caramelized bites with crispy edges and that signature sweet with a little kick flavor.
Ingredients:
For the Pork:
4–5 lb pork butt (cut into 1½–2 inch cubes)
2 tbsp olive oil or mustard
Dry Rub:
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp chili powder
Sweet Heat Layer:
1/2 cup Campbell Gardens Candied Jalapeños (chopped)
2–3 tbsp jalapeño brine Optional: Candied Habaneros for extra heat
BBQ Sauce:
1 cup BBQ sauce
1/3 cup Campbell Gardens Candied Jalapeños (minced)
2 -3 tbsp brown sugar
1–2 tbsp jalapeño brine
Building flavor from the start with candied jalapeños and that signature sweet heat.
Instructions:
Sauce: Combine BBQ sauce, chopped candied jalapeños, brine, and brown sugar. Simmer in a sauce pan to a boil and then let cool.
Prep the Pork:
Preheat the oven to 325°F.
Pat pork butt dry, coat lightly with oil or mustard, and apply dry rub evenly on all sides.
Add Sweet Heat Flavor:
Remove from heat and let rest 10–15 minutes.
Cut into 1–1½ inch cubes and place into a pan.
Season and Sauce:
Lightly sprinkle additional rub over cubes.
Pour BBQ sauce mixture over pork and toss to coat evenly.
Final Cook:
Place the pan on grill at 325°F.
Cook uncovered for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until caramelized and slightly crisp on the edges.
Serve:
Serve hot as an appetizer or main dish. Perfect for game day, backyard cookouts, or anytime you want bold BBQ flavor with a sweet heat kick.
